Holy Cross Theological Seminary
There are people who feel called by God to explore a variety of contemporary ministries. This sense of seeking to widen their professional, personal and spiritual expertise calls for renewed strength, learning and competence. Holy Cross Theological Seminary is structured using the traditional English model, thereby providing an educational environment for those people who are able to work independently in our external study or residential programs, in close cooperation with directing mentors. The Christian community serves as the base for student projects and learning. We will explore with students, the framework of structured study plans, and how the program can develop to meet their ministerial goals. We encourage students to work within the context of their own Church, and in the concepts of their own spirituality. Through this process of learning, combining conventional methods with the innovative, the students will recognize and accept a greater understanding of themselves and their own skills in the ministry. Statement of Purpose: Holy Cross Theological Seminary was founded in 1970 to provide education in religious studies for candidates pursuing careers within the ministry and to provide continuing education for the Clergy of the Old Catholic Church of America. Holy Cross Theological Seminary is a community of faculty and students coming together for the purpose of building up of the Body of Christ. The Seminary's purpose is to provide an integrated Theological, Spiritual and Pastoral education to candidates applying for degrees. The Seminary confers degrees based on academic credit, competencies and performance skills. The religious education process is cultivated through a mentor and self-education that allows enough freedom for guided but directed independent study. Holy Cross Theological Seminary truly responds to the challenges and teachings of the Old Catholic Church of America by welcoming interested clergy, religious and laity into the program. Ordained Catholic Clergy without Faculties: To previously ordained Old Catholic clergy of other jurisdictions, Roman Catholic and Anglican clergy whose faculties withdrawn and wish to return to ministry, we invite you to investigate the possibility of incardination with one of our Bishops. Protestant Ministers desirous of sacramental ordination may also receive special pastoral provision from a Bishop of our Church, which in most cases would include a waiver of many of the academic requirements which would be duplicative of study an experience already attained. If you would like further information please contact Archbishop James Bostwick.
